Baby Steps For Robin’s Nest

We are Adam and Katti Henderson, and half of our hearts are in Jamaica. In January 2012, after pursing an international adoption from the island, we got word of a baby who had been left at a pregnancy resource center. We quickly left on a plane to go and care for our first son, Alex, in Jamaica. The plan was to stay until we could officially adopt him and bring him home. We lived on the island for almost six months when his birth father unexpectedly came back to take him. Our hearts were broken, and we didn’t know what God’s purpose was in all of our pain.

We do know that God is a God who makes beauty from ashes, and we know that’s exactly what he’s doing in our hearts, and in Jamaica. We made many friends while we lived on the island, whether it was at church, in our apartment complex, or just people we met while going to the bank, grocery store etc.

One friendship we made on the island was with Robin’s Nest Children’s Home in Montego Bay, Jamaica. We went to serve there and met the wonderful directors, Vicki and Katie. They have such selfless and giving hearts, which they give so graciously to the thirty children who call Robin’s Nest Home. I will never forget the feeling I had when we spent time at Robin’s Nest. Vicki, Katie, and the staff at the home are the hands and feet of Jesus to these children.

This is Adam’s and my third year to have a team (Baby Steps) at The Chosen Marathon For Adoption. The race has blessed us in so many ways. We were so amazed at God’s provision for our family when we brought home our son, Isaac, this year through a domestic adoption.

When contemplating how to continue our team this year, as well as bless an organization through the Chosen Orphan Care program, we knew we wanted to give back to Robin’s Nest and the work they do there. When I contacted Katie, I asked her what the greatest needs were at the home. She responded with several requests, but one resonated with my spirit. The children must walk to school each day, and are also constantly growing and require two pairs of shoes a year. One pair must be worn with their school uniform, and the other a pair of tennis shoes. The approximate cost for each pair is between $25-$30 USD, so the total amount to provide two pair of shoes for each child would be about $750-$900.

The vision and Goal Statement of Robin’s Nest says: “Our Vision is to provide a safe and secure Christian environment for the children while providing them the education they need to grow. Our goal is to transform hurting children into spiritually, physically and mentally healthy believers prepared to impact the world around them.”

We feel fortunate and blessed that we can use our community of fellow Christian brothers and sisters to play a part in blessing this Children’s Home as they bless these precious children. Robin’s Nest Website

————————————————- **AN IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION FROM ABBA FUND ABOUT YOUR DONATION** Using the online form on this page automatically submits a request to preference your gift to the family profiled on this page as part of ABBA Fund’s Christian Family Adoption Grant Fund. ABBA Fund administers this fund and maintains full control and administration of all donated funds. We also strive to honor our donor’s preference requests in accordance with IRS and Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) guidelines. The IRS allows donors to state a preference of how their contribution is used and request that the gift support a particular family — and it allows the charitable organization (ABBA Fund) to fully consider that request as long as the donor understands and acknowledges for charitably given tax-deductible gifts that the ultimate authority regarding the disposition of your gift is at the discretion of the charitable organization. By using this online form, or other method described above, you are acknowledging an understanding of those IRS guidelines. As required by IRS regulations, any tax-deductible donation is made to the charitable organization (ABBA Fund) and not the individual (family) — otherwise it is a non-deductible gift and should be given directly to the family. Every gift into the Christian Family Adoption Grant Fund is helping reduce the financial burden of adoption for families that have qualified for adoption assistance from ABBA Fund. ABBA Fund is grateful for each donation given to the Christian Family Adoption Grant Fund, and broad participation in the fund helps ensure that ABBA Fund is able to assist each approved family with the grant and loan funds preferenced to reduce the financial burden of their adoption. ABBA Fund, a 501(c)(3) ministry, has provided more than $6.5 million in grants and interest-free loans to help 1,012 orphans become sons and daughters in 912 Christian families since 2004 (as of early 2015) — with more adoptions being assisted every month.
