Eldredge Family Adoption

“Adoption is core to who God is.” The first time I (Ashley) read that quote I thought “Yes! That’s it. That’s why we do what we do!”

After our son Evan was born a little over a year after our wedding, we decided that next time around we would like to grow our family through adoption! Before getting married, both Joel and I had experiences caring for and teaching at-risk children. Joel had spent time working at a Haitian orphanage and realized then that God was putting the burden of adoption on his heart! Ever since reading about Gladys Aylward and Amy Carmichael in school, I knew that orphan care was part of my calling. For several reasons we turned our focus to becoming licensed foster/adoptive parents in the state of MO when Evan was just 1 year old! We saw God’s hand in it all along the way, and then when He answered our prayer for a bigger house and more land, His will was solidified.

We found Mavrick (then “Jamyron”) on the AdoptionExchange website and reached out to his worker for more info. After plenty of research and many phone calls, we went to an adoption staffing to be interviewed by 13 people for the position of new mommy and daddy for this little boy! An hour after the staffing we received a call that we’d been chosen. It didn’t really sink in until a few months later when our new son came to live with us, two hours away from where he’d been born (before Joel and I were even married!). God’s timing is perfect! We fostered Mavrick for a year before the courts granted us legal custody and printed a new birth certificate as proof that he was our “real” son. It was a crazy, yet insanely peaceful day!

Now our family is ready to grow yet again. Uganda adoption has been a question in our minds for about 2 years now! We believe that God is leading us to “take the plunge” and trust that He will provide. The stacks of paperwork continue to grow, but so does our faith.

Update as of April 2016: We plan to travel for our first trip to Uganda at the end of this month or beginning of next! Joel and Ashley will spend 2 weeks in a safe house near the orphanage where our baby is currently living. During that time we will spend time bonding with Baby and appear in court to petition guardianship! Our dossier has already been sent to the embassy and right now we are just waiting to be assigned a court date.

Thank you for reading our adoption story and considering the gift of financial help!
With much love & hope,
The Eldredge Family
Joel, Ashley, Evan and Mavrick

To DONATE BY MAIL, please make out the check to ABBA Fund (do not write the family name on the physical check, which will invalidate the charitable aspect of your gift … instead either print out this page to send with it or include a separate note to request that we preference your gift toward the family profiled on this page) — then mail your check and preference request to:

ABBA Fund, PO BOX 868049, Plano, TX 75086-8049

Using the online form on this page automatically submits a request to preference your gift to the family profiled on this page as part of ABBA Fund’s Christian Family Adoption Grant Fund. ABBA Fund administers this fund and maintains full control and administration of all donated funds. We also strive to honor our donor’s preference requests in accordance with IRS and Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) guidelines.

The IRS allows donors to state a preference of how their contribution is used and request that the gift support a particular family — and it allows the charitable organization (ABBA Fund) to fully consider that request as long as the donor understands and acknowledges for charitably given tax-deductible gifts that the ultimate authority regarding the disposition of your gift is at the discretion of the charitable organization. By using this online form, or other method described above, you are acknowledging an understanding of those IRS guidelines.

As required by IRS regulations, any tax-deductible donation is made to the charitable organization (ABBA Fund) and not the individual (family) — otherwise it is a non-deductible gift and should be given directly to the family. Every gift into the Christian Family Adoption Grant Fund is helping reduce the financial burden of adoption for families that have qualified for adoption assistance from ABBA Fund.

ABBA Fund is grateful for each donation given to the Christian Family Adoption Grant Fund, and broad participation in the fund helps ensure that ABBA Fund is able to assist each approved family with the grant and loan funds preferenced to reduce the financial burden of their adoption. ABBA Fund, a 501(c)(3) ministry, has provided more than $6.5 million in grants and interest-free loans to help 1,012 orphans become sons and daughters in 912 Christian families since 2004 (as of early 2015) — with more adoptions being assisted every month.
