Koehler Family Adoption

Hi, this is our family! Well, almost, anyway. One particular little girl is missing, and we need your help to bring her home. We already know who she is and what she looks like, but unfortunately cannot share that with you quite yet. What we can share is that her name will be Elsbeth Leora, that we will call her El, and that she is an adorable 1 year old right now.

That’s the short story. You most likely already know the long story: we have wanted to adopt from China since we got married over a decade ago. We wanted a special needs kiddo. We wanted a girl, even before we had three wild, crazy boys. But this adoption is not about us; we are not saviors, swooping down to rescue orphans from a horrible future (however true that may be). We are adopting because we want to, of course, but also because it is a beautiful picture of what God does for his people: adopt them. Not only does he save us, he also gives us all things together with his son Jesus. Jesus is the heir; we are co-heirs with him. That should boggle our minds. And we were not cute little kids with bleak futures. We were dead and lost. “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ. (Eph 2:4,5)”

This is why we want to adopt. Will you partner with us? We received a $5,000 matching grant (among other help!), so you can double every dollar you give, up to $5,000 total. That will help us with agency fees (our agency workers are awesome and helpful, and deserve what they charge!), fees for government paperwork (governments need to eat, too?), and travel costs (we do have to go get her at some point).

Thank you for reading our story and considering helping out. You can do that by praying for us and El. In fact, please pray before you give money. Don’t give money you don’t have or need for other things; the Father who adopted us, he will provide.

To DONATE BY MAIL, please make out the check to ABBA Fund (do not write the family name on the physical check, which will invalidate the charitable aspect of your gift … instead either print out this page to send with it or include a separate note to request that we preference your gift toward the family profiled on this page) — then mail your check and preference request to:

**AN IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION FROM ABBA FUND ABOUT YOUR DONATION**
Using the online form on this page automatically submits a request to preference your gift to the family profiled on this page as part of ABBA Fund’s Christian Family Adoption Grant Fund. ABBA Fund administers this fund and maintains full control and administration of all donated funds. We also strive to honor our donor’s preference requests in accordance with IRS and Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) guidelines.

The IRS allows donors to state a preference of how their contribution is used and request that the gift support a particular family — and it allows the charitable organization (ABBA Fund) to fully consider that request as long as the donor understands and acknowledges for charitably given tax-deductible gifts that the ultimate authority regarding the disposition of your gift is at the discretion of the charitable organization. By using this online form, or other method described above, you are acknowledging an understanding of those IRS guidelines.

As required by IRS regulations, any tax-deductible donation is made to the charitable organization (ABBA Fund) and not the individual (family) — otherwise it is a non-deductible gift and should be given directly to the family. Every gift into the Christian Family Adoption Grant Fund is helping reduce the financial burden of adoption for families that have qualified for adoption assistance from ABBA Fund.

ABBA Fund is grateful for each donation given to the Christian Family Adoption Grant Fund, and broad participation in the fund helps ensure that ABBA Fund is able to assist each approved family with the grant and loan funds preferenced to reduce the financial burden of their adoption. ABBA Fund, a 501(c)(3) ministry, has provided more than $6.5 million in grants and interest-free loans to help 1,012 orphans become sons and daughters in 912 Christian families since 2004 (as of early 2015) — with more adoptions being assisted every month.
