Kwak Family Adoption

“Paul: I am adopting because God has been preparing me since I became a Christian at 21 years old. Verses such as Ephesians 1:5 paint a picture of God adopting us as his children through Christ and has only grown more powerfully since. For example, He has opened my heart to the situations around the world that were heartbreaking, especially to children and orphans through various missions trips. With further education about situations many orphans can go through in various different places (human trafficking, sex trafficking, abandonment, abuse, etc.) and also being surrounded by families who have adopted domestically and internationally in our current church in Maryland, the normalization of that culture and lifestyle fed into us and in great desires to adopt ourselves.

Susanna: Adoption is something that has always been on my heart in one shape or form. When I was a young girl, I dreamed of doing something to help orphans around the world. This desire grew into my pursuit of even getting a degree in International Studies in college. After being involved in missions post college, I knew that later on in life, I would want to adopt when God had allowed me to start a family. When Paul and I dated and even began our marriage, we talked about it a lot. We became involved in an orphan ministry at church and we even began to seek out friendship in families who had adopted. Throughout the course of our 2 years of courtship and 8 years of marriage, our heart and minds grew a lot towards adoption. But it wasn’t after the birth of our first son that our thoughts became a reality. We knew it was time to push the green light and grow our family through adoption.

We have decided to adopt a boy from South Korea because we and our firstborn, Christian, are Korean. We also want to have our first adopted child to have that connection with us as we speak the language and have ties and roots there through our families. We have been matched with a boy from South Korea and have named him Elisha (Eli). He is a healthy boy and his progress reports always bring huge smiles to our faces! We recently sent our first care package to him and his foster family which made the fact of him being our son so much more of a reality and exciting.

We would love anyone reading this to prayerfully consider joining us through prayer, encouragement, and any financial contribution, to help alleviate any financial burdens we may have from this process.

God bless you guys and thank you from the Kwak family!”
