Ridley Family Adoption

On August 25 God blessed us with 2 beautiful twin girls, Lily Makenna Grace and Layla Rose.

Every time we look at their tiny perfect faces, we are reminded of God’s grace poured out over our family.

We are blown away by God’s plan and timing, perfect in every way.

Ridely Family girls 1 monthSo thankful that their birth mother is so selfless and chose life for her precious babies, giving us the family we have prayed for so many years.

Thank you so much to each and every person who has prayed, texted, helped us financially, and walked every step of this journey with us.

Would you please prayerfully consider us helping us complete our adoption — the final expenses will be well over $8,000 on top of the generosity and savings and fundraisers we have been blessed with so far.

To DONATE BY MAIL, please make out the check to ABBA Fund (do not write the family name on the physical check, which will invalidate the charitable aspect of your gift … instead either print out this page to send with it or include a separate note to request that we preference your gift toward the family profiled on this page) — then mail your check and preference request to:

ABBA Fund, PO BOX 868049, Plano, TX 75086-8049

Ridley Puzzle FinalThanks to Everyone Who Helped Complete Our PUZZLE!

Here is a picture of the completed puzzle hanging in Lily’s & Layla’s room … and every piece has the names of all the families and friends who so generously help assist with our adoption journey to graft these two precious daughters into our family. Go is so good — He promises to “place the lonely in families” (Psalm 68:6) and “defend the cause of the fatherless” (Deuteronomy 10:18).

As many of you know, we prayerfully began taking the first real steps toward growing our family through adoption earlier this fall 2014 after a season of prayer and counsel. This will be our first child, and we have decided to adopt domestically. We are working with Deaconess Adoptions, a small care-oriented Christian adoption agency in the Oklahoma City.

In case you don’t know, domestic adoptions end up costing around $23,000 — and like most people, we don’t have those type of funds readily available. (A Barna Group research study shows that 38% of all Christians have seriously considered adoption, but only 5% end up adopting … and most of the 33% who don’t move forward say that finances was the major reason.)

But we also know that God puts the lonely in families (Psalms 86:6) and that He has a tremendous heart for the orphan (James 1:27; Deuteronomy 10:18 … and throughout the scriptures) — so we’re not going to let the fear of finances sideline us from the call He has put on our hearts to adopt. And so far, God has shown up and the journey has been amazing — and the generosity of our family and friends has been overwhelming!

Thank you for all the encouraging words, prayers, and support so far — we still have  ways to go financially, but our hearts and home are ready … and your generosity and prayers and encouragement help us to continue trusting in God as He unfolds this glorious adventure for our family.

In addition to our own personal stewardship and savings, one of our first steps was to hold a garage sale — and my sister grace held one for us where she lives … and other friends held one for us too. So humbling. We were overwhelmed and blessed by the generosity everyone showed. A few people who stopped by were so touched they just made a personal donation (and we didn’t even know them!) … but God blessed us with more than $1,500 through the garage sale and lots of encouragement. (Thanks to all of you who donated items for all three sales!)

And then, God showed up again — we’ve received up to a $2,000 grant to pay for our home study (the first major step toward getting approved for adoption, and the first major financial hurdle).

Our next major round of adoption fees, legal paperwork, etc. is about $6,000 and will came due this spring — so we’re faithfully and prayerfully continuing forward (and saving, and sacrificing … and letting God continue to prepare our hearts and family for the child He has already preparing for us).

… one step closer to bringing Baby Ridley home

Ridley PuzzleBaby Ridley is the missing piece of our family – and God has focused our hearts on adoption. To help us with our initial adoption fees, 250+ friends sponsored each piece for $20 … and we wrote their name on the back of each piece of the puzzle picture to the right that will hand in Baby Ridley’s room! Thank you so much for everyone who gave so generously … what a blessing each of you have been! We cherish the thought of sharing with Baby Ridley as she/he grows up to know that not only were we praying for him/her, but hundreds of family & friends … and that she/he is loved and cherished.

We’ll end up framing the picture in a glass frame to be able to see both sides and hanging it in our child’s room – and sharing the story of the picture over and over as our child grows up.

Ridley - Adoption 3Adoption was not always the plan. After we had been married a little over two years, we started trying to have a baby. After a year of unsuccessfully trying on our own, we decided to see an infertility doctor. We did 6 months of very conservative treatment and when that didn’t work, we decided to try something more aggressive. Jake and I underwent 3 aggressive cycles of IUI – which ended in heartbreak every time. The next step would have been IVF, but we just didn’t have peace about that and we both needed a break from the emotional roller coaster that is infertility.

Trying for a baby got put on the back burner for a while, although the void and hurt was very present. We needed time to get on our knees and seek God’s face as we prayed for the knowledge of His will to be revealed to us. Isaiah 61:1 says “He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted and to proclaim freedom for the captives…” And that is exactly what God did for us in this time of waiting. The pain and hurt that comes from being unable to bear a child is very real and something we had to work through as a family.

Ridley Adoption 1God began to stir in our hearts the thought of adoption. We would see signs, commercials, and people would ask us if it was something we had considered. We began to pray for Christ to make it clear to us if this was His will for our lives. Mary was ready way before Jake was. She had an immense peace and knew without a shadow of a doubt that adoption was what they were called to do. Jake wasn’t sold on the idea until returning from a recent mission trip to Panama. There God completely changed his heart and confirmed adoption was the right path as he fell in love with the children of Panama.

God confirms this through His word in Ephesians 1:5 “He predestined us for adoption as Sons through Jesus Christ according to the purpose of His will.” Although the financial burden of adoption is a very real concern for our family, we trust that God will provide –and so far, He had not disappointed! With that in mind, we ask that you prayerfully consider being a part of our adoption journey through your prayers and financial generosity, if God so leads …

Using the online form on this page automatically submits a request to preference your gift to the family profiled on this page as part of ABBA Fund’s Christian Family Adoption Grant Fund. ABBA Fund administers this fund and maintains full control and administration of all donated funds. We also strive to honor our donor’s preference requests in accordance with IRS and Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) guidelines.
As required by IRS regulations, any tax-deductible donation is made to the charitable organization (ABBA Fund) and not the individual (family) — otherwise it is a non-deductible gift and should be given directly to the family.
Every gift into the Christian Family Adoption Grant Fund is helping reduce the financial burden of adoption for families that have qualified for support from ABBA Fund — including the family listed above in their online Family Adoption Fund profile.
The IRS allows donors to state a preference of how their contribution is used and request that the gift support a particular family — and it allows the charitable organization (ABBA Fund) to fully consider that request as long as the donor understands and acknowledges for charitably given tax-deductible gifts that the ultimate authority regarding the disposition of your gift is at the discretion of the charitable organization. By using this online form, or other method described above, you are acknowledging an understanding of those IRS guidelines.
ABBA Fund is grateful for each donation given to the Christian Family Adoption Grant Fund, and broad participation in the fund helps ensure that ABBA Fund is able to assist each approved family with the grant and loan funds preferenced to reduce the financial burden of their adoption.
ABBA Fund, a 501(c)(3) ministry, has provided more than $5.4 million in grants and interest-free loans to help 972 orphans become sons and daughters in 780 Christian families since 2004 (as of fall 2014) — with more adoptions being assisted every month.
